Shenyang Conservatory of Music is the only higher music art college with a long history and glorious tradition in northeast China. Its predecessor was Lu Xun Art Academy, founded in Yan’an, 1938 by Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and other old proletarian revolutionaries and it was the first senior art college established by the Chinese Communist Party. After the victory of anti-Japanese war, it was moved from Yan’an to the northeast and finally settled in Shenyang, renamed Shenyang Conservatory of Music in 1958.
Dalian Campus was established with the approval of Liaoning Provincial government in 2005. The first and second deans were Li Xueke, vice president of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, and Wei Huang, vice president of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music. The current president is vice president of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Wu Houxing, and the Secretary of the Party General Branch and deputy dean for daily work is Wu Jiajun. Dalian Campus has 201 faculty and staff members, including 13 professors, 30 associate professors and 806 students, setting six teaching departments and offices, Vocal Department, Piano Department, Orchestral Department, Music Education Department, Folk Music Department and Dance Department, as well as offices, teaching practice management office, student management office, logistics and security management office, and financial management office. In 2006, we started to recruit four-year undergraduates and students who graduated will be awarded the general bachelor’s degree of "Shenyang Conservatory of Music" and the bachelor’s degree of art by the Ministry of Education of China. Since its establishment, the institute has set up artistic practice groups such as youth symphony orchestra, national orchestra and choir composed of young teachers and outstanding students to serve the construction of regional economic culture and spiritual civilization with high standard.
Under the correct leadership of the Part Committee of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Dalian campus adheres to the philosophy of “rooting in the nation, integrating into the times, highlighting the characteristics, and serving the society”, inherits and carries forward the tradition of Lu Xun Art Academy with the 80-year history of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music as its accumulation. We will make continuous efforts to build the school goal of “high-level, distinctive and international first-class music college”.
